EARLY LIFE & BACKGROUND
Cory DeVante Williams was born on November 9, 1992, in Michigan. Most biographies name Detroit as his birthplace, while a few point to Ann Arbor. He is the son of Anthony K. Williams Jr. and Stephanie Williams, and he grew up alongside a sister, Aleya, and a younger brother, Anthony, who also became a YouTuber.
Williams has described himself as a gamer from a young age, and the Detroit area remained his home base as his audience grew. Several biographies say he studied game development or media-related subjects at a Michigan college. They also say he left before finishing a degree to pursue content creation full time, though the exact school and program are reported inconsistently.
His stage name comes from the anime Rurouni Kenshin, a series he admired. Fans later gave him the nickname “The Shogun,” which fits the samurai theme. Outside his online persona, he has kept his upbringing and family life fairly private. That discretion is part of why basic facts, including the Coryxkenshin height figure, are mostly circulated by fan sites rather than confirmed in formal interviews.
CAREER JOURNEY / TIMELINE
Williams reportedly created his first YouTube channel around 2009. It was experimental and did not gain traction. A common thread in his story is persistence: he kept uploading while finding his voice.
2013: He posted an early gaming-related vlog in October 2013, which many biographies treat as the start of his real YouTube career.
2014: He shifted fully toward gaming content, uploading live gameplay and commentary. His energetic reactions and comedic timing started to separate him from other channels.
2015: His horror playthroughs gained traction. Games like Five Nights at Freddy’s, Slender, Outlast, and Amnesia suited his style, since exaggerated reactions to jump scares made his videos highly shareable.
2016: He crossed one million subscribers, the milestone that moved him from a rising creator to an established name in gaming YouTube.
2017 to 2019: His audience expanded well beyond horror. He covered big releases like Resident Evil entries, mixed in comedy skits and vlogs, and built a recognizable brand with merchandise and a loyal community that supports his work.
2020 to 2022: He continued growing across YouTube and live streaming, and pursued music and other creative projects. He also spoke openly about burnout and took breaks from posting to protect his mental health, a decision many fans praised.
2023 to present: He has kept producing gameplay content while selectively expanding into other ventures. His channel remains one of the best known in horror gaming, and his catalog of series and community events keeps his audience engaged.
Across these years, his rise has depended on personality, humor, and consistency far more than any physical trait.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE IN DETAIL
At about 6 feet 3 inches (190 cm), Coryxkenshin stands well above the average American man, who measures roughly 5 feet 9 inches. Listed weights vary from around 70 kg to the high 80s kg, a spread that shows how unreliable fan-site data can be. Visually, he is generally seen as having a lean to medium athletic build rather than a bulky frame.
He has black hair, typically kept short and neat, and brown eyes, which some sources describe as light brown. Facial hair, often a trimmed beard or mustache, has been part of his look in many videos and photos.
His style leans toward casual streetwear: hoodies, graphic tees, caps, and his own branded merchandise. On camera he is usually seated at a desk with a gaming setup, which means his height is rarely obvious in regular uploads. It becomes more noticeable at conventions, meetups, and collaborations where he stands next to other creators.
That limited visibility explains why the height question keeps coming up. Viewers see a face on a webcam, not a full-body frame next to a measuring reference, so the number is usually inferred from photos with other people. This produces the occasional disagreement, such as claims that he is closer to average height, but those claims rely on camera angles rather than documented measurements.
HEIGHT COMPARISON SECTION
Fans love comparing YouTubers, and Coryxkenshin’s height holds up well against other major names in gaming and online entertainment. At 6’3″, he is taller than most of the creators he is usually grouped with, including some of the biggest gaming personalities in the world. Only a handful of the most prominent YouTubers, such as MrBeast, are taller.
Heights for creators are almost always approximate, because few of them publish official measurements and many have been listed at slightly different figures over the years. The comparison below uses the most commonly cited numbers.
| Creator | Approx. Height (ft/in) | Approx. Height (cm) |
|---|---|---|
| MrBeast | 6 ft 5 in | 196 cm |
| Coryxkenshin | 6 ft 3 in | 190 cm |
| PewDiePie | 6 ft 1 in | 185 cm |
| Markiplier | 5 ft 11 in | 180 cm |
| Ninja | 5 ft 10 in | 178 cm |
| Jacksepticeye | 5 ft 9 in | 175 cm |
HOW HEIGHT SHAPED THEIR CAREER/PUBLIC IMAGE
For most of his career, height has played a small role in Coryxkenshin’s success. Gaming content is a seated format, and his appeal comes from reactions, storytelling, and humor. A viewer watching a horror playthrough does not need to know how tall he is to enjoy the jump scare that sends him flying out of his chair.
That said, height does contribute to his public image in a few real ways. In collaborations and live events, his stature makes him easy to spot in a group, and fans often joke about it in comment sections and fan art. His tall frame also adds to the physical comedy in moments where he ducks, flinches, or recoils on camera. A larger person reacting to a pixelated monster is inherently funny, and he has leaned into that contrast.
Height also feeds the “approachable giant” image some fans associate with him. He is tall, but his on-screen personality is warm, goofy, and welcoming, which creates a pleasant mismatch with how people expect a 6’3″ man to behave. This reinforces the relatable tone that has helped him maintain loyal viewers for over a decade.
It would be an overstatement to say height built his career. What it did is add a small layer of personality to a brand that already had strong storytelling and community-building behind it.
WHAT THEY’VE SAID ABOUT THEIR HEIGHT
Coryxkenshin has not made height a recurring topic in widely documented interviews, and no verified direct quote from him about his exact measurement is commonly cited. Most of the height figures online come from fan wikis and biography sites rather than from statements he made himself.
What does exist is a steady stream of audience curiosity. Fans regularly ask about his height in comment sections, Q&A threads, and community posts, and the topic resurfaces whenever he appears in photos with other creators. He has generally treated the attention with the same lighthearted tone that defines his channel, rather than turning it into a major theme.
This silence is typical for creators who prefer to keep personal details private. Because he has not published an official figure, the 6’3″ number should be treated as the most reasonable consensus rather than a confirmed measurement. Anyone citing it should call it approximate, especially since a few sources list 6’2″ instead.
PERSONAL LIFE BRIEF
Williams keeps his personal life largely out of the spotlight. There is no publicly confirmed marriage or children, and while rumors and fan speculation circulate, he has not made relationship announcements a part of his content.
Family appears to be an important anchor. His siblings, Aleya and Anthony, are mentioned in most biographies, and Anthony has carved out his own YouTube presence. His dog, Samson, has appeared in his content and is a fan favorite.
He is based in Michigan and has talked about wanting a healthy balance between work and rest. His openness about taking breaks for mental health has made him a respected voice among creators who deal with burnout. Today he continues to produce content on his own schedule while maintaining one of the most loyal communities in gaming YouTube.
